Milwaukee Recreation will host the 14th annual Special Olympics citywide tournament from 9:00 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at Wick Playfield, 4929 W. Vliet St. Participants will compete in softball, t-ball, and bocce for the opportunity to qualify for the district competition in July. Over 1,000 athletes, coaches, spectators, and volunteers from Milwaukee, Ozaukee, and Washington counties will attend. Milwaukee Recreation is currently planning to welcome 19 softball teams, 10 tee-ball teams, and 58 bocce teams. Admission is free and open to the public.
Milwaukee Recreation’s Special Olympics program is designed for individuals who have been identified as having cognitive disabilities. The program teaches good sportsmanship and responsibility through local, state, national, and international competitions. Student and adult athletes may participate in several activities throughout the year, including swimming, tennis, bocce, track, basketball, volleyball, gymnastics, bowling, soccer, and softball.
