To alleviate a critical street parking squeeze affecting several downtown businesses, Alderman Robert J. Bauman has proposed
rescinding a state Department of Transportation (WDOT) mandated traffic control plan related to the demolition and reconstruction of I-794 and the Hoan Bridge.
Alderman Bauman, chair of the Public Works Committee, has introduced a resolution to rescind Council File No. 121527 and thus
remove parking restrictions along E. Michigan St., N. Broadway and N. Milwaukee Streets that WDOT demanded the city put into place to divert construction-impacted traffic and allow for full four-lane traffic during the I-794 and Hoan Bridge project work
“After receiving information that the elimination of parking in the affected areas is having a severe negative impact on small
businesses, I think it makes sense for us to rescind the parking restrictions,” Alderman Bauman said. The impacted area is located within the 4th Aldermanic District which Alderman Bauman represents.
The proposal is expected to be scheduled for discussion by the Public Works Committee at its February 19 meeting at City Hall (9
a.m. in room 301-B).
