Award presented at the 14th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

La Causa, Inc. received the 2011 Lincoln Gaines Award at the14th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast on Monday.

The award, sponsored by the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, recognizes community members and organizations, who demonstrate a strong commitment to serving youth and creating a better future.

The ceremony was held at Frontier Airlines Center, located at 400 W. Wisconsin Ave.

The Lincoln Gaines Award was created to commemorate Lincoln Gaines and his strong commitment to Milwaukee’s central community members.

Mr. Gaines was a co-organizer of the North Central YMCA in 1929 and devoted over 50 years to improving the quality of life for Milwaukee’s youth.

The award tributes organizations, who build awareness, speak on behalf of justice and celebrate diversity based on the values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

La Causa, Inc. is one of the largest bilingual, multicultural agencies in Milwaukee, serving more than 11,000 individuals every year.

Core services focus on education, child abuse prevention, and social services that provide valuable assistance to vulnerable families. Programs include a Charter School, an Early Education and Childcare Center, a Family Resource Center, a Crisis Nursery and Respite Center, foster care recruitment, mental health services, parenting classes, support groups and a full array of other innovative programs for people in need.
