Barbershops are a traditional place where men gather, talk and share information. This Saturday, some of those shops around the Milwaukee area as well as the nation will be sharing some especially important information.

On Saturday, June 16 between 9 am and 2 pm, nine Milwaukee barbershops will be part of President Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative’s Fatherhood Buzz. This event is a national effort originating from the President that is designed to get the word out about the importance of fatherhood and local resources that can help men become better dads.

The Fatherhood Buzz will be held at nine shops in Milwaukee:

  • Gee’s Clippers 4323 W. Fond du Lac Avenue
  • Taso’s Hair Studio 1031 W. Mitchell Street
  • The Original Hair King 4254 W. Fond du Lac Avenue
  • Brew City 2554 W. Fond du Lac Avenue
  • Collier Creations 6802 W. Villard Avenue
  • Dep’s House of Fades 2700 W. Lisbon Avenue
  • Flip ‘N’ Styles 2637 W. Greenfield Avenue
  • Hair Arkitekts 2663 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue
  • Ronnie’s Barber Shop 3714 W. Center Street

Media are encouraged to visit between 9am and 11am any of the first three shops listed to interview barbers, patrons, and Fatherhood Buzz partnering organizations. Milwaukee Brewer tickets are also being distributed to some patrons at those first three shops.

Lead partner of the Fatherhood Buzz in Milwaukee is the Social Development Commission’s (SDC) Healthy Relationship and Marriage Enhancement Program with other partners including Compel, the Center for Self Sufficiency, Milwaukee Fatherhood Initiative, the Milwaukee County Department of Child Support Enforcement, and the Milwaukee Brewers.

The goal of Fatherhood Buzz is to encourage men to become more active and informed fathers by exposing them to local organizations and programs that help men become more engaged in their families. They will use the familiar talking place of the barbershop to do so. Fathers will be directed to local fatherhood resources as well as President Obama’s Fatherhood Initiative.
