Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs, Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, and Alderman Nik Kovac will be part of the Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP’s Annual Freedom Fund Dinner and festivities Saturday, September 15. The event is a celebration of the history of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), the oldest and largest Civil Rights organization in the United States.

The theme of this year’s event is “Reform, Restore, Refocus: Your Power, Your Decision-VOTE.”

Alderwoman Coggs said she is a proud and dedicated supporter of the Milwaukee Branch of the NAACP, which was founded 88 years ago. “To me, the NAACP has been a powerful source of positive change for millions of Americans, and it represents a tradition of equality, of fairness, and of course a historic tradition of social justice,” Alderwoman Coggs said. “The important work of the NAACP comes with a cost, and the Freedom Dinner is an important annual fundraising event that ensures the hard work and service can continue.”

The public is invited to join in the event, which is hosted at the Hyatt Regency Downtown, 333 W. Kilbourn Ave. and begins with a silent auction and reception at 5:30 p.m. and follows with a dinner program at 7:00 p.m.

Alderman Hamilton said the NAACP Young Adult Committee is also inviting dinner attendees and community members to participate in The Freedom Party — an after party at the Hyatt in the Polaris rooftop room — following the dinner. “This will be an opportunity for younger members to network, share ideas, make important contacts, and party with a purpose,” Alderman Hamilton said.
