Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele released his 2013 Proposed Budget on Thursday, September 27, 2012. The $1.3 billion budget proposal does not raise taxes or include furlough days. The budget adds in more money for Parks, Transit and Public Safety.
Under Abele’s budget, most employees will receive cost of living raises and there is $500,000 for a first-of-its kind employee bonus program.
After a three year hiatus, this budget also includes money for capital projects, including millions of dollars for long deferred maintenance projects at the War Memorial Center, County Parks, Mitchell International Airport and the Milwaukee County Zoo.
“When I decided to run for office two years ago, I did so because I knew we had to do better in Milwaukee County government. I know that if we are afraid to make big changes then Milwaukee County will not be around for our children and certainly not for generations after,” Abele said.
