Thanksgiving Event will highlight college and high school basketball talent
MILWAUKEE, WI, April 26, 2010 – Milwaukee Public Schools and the Fresh Coast Classic organization will be joining forces for the 2010 Fresh Coast Basketball Classic (FCBC). Milwaukee Public Schools’ City/Suburban Holiday Classic and the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic will unite in 2010 to highlight the best of each event. The 2010 event is scheduled for November 26 & 27, 2010 and will be held at Wisconsin Lutheran College.
The 4th annual event will feature four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) playing in four games over a 2-day period. 2009 FCBC Champions, Clark Atlanta University (GA), will be back in 2010 to defend their title against well-known HBCUs from across the country. The four HBCU teams will participate in semifinal games on Friday, November 26th with the championship and consolation games scheduled for Saturday, November 27.
Traditionally, the Fresh Coast Basketball Classic has been a Black College Classic, but this year’s event will expand to include eight high school games. The eight high school games will follow the City/Suburban Holiday Classic format, in which a Milwaukee City Conference school will be paired against a Milwaukee area suburban school. The 2010 FCBC will feature premier high school basketball programs in the Metro Milwaukee Area including the 2010 Division 1 Boys’ State Basketball Champion, Arrowhead High School.
The 2010 Fresh Coast Basketball Classic will offer amazing opportunities for the HBCU and high school participants. During the 2010 FCBC many of the Milwaukee area high school participants will be exposed to Historically Black Colleges and Universities for the first time. The 2010 FCBC will also feature some of Milwaukee’s best basketball talent and the 2010 HBCUs will have a front row seat to see those athletes.
The 2010 FCBC will not only highlight athletics, but will also stress the importance of education, family and community. The 2010 FCBC College & Resource Fair allows Milwaukee youth and families to explore the many educational opportunities that are available in the United States. In 2009 16 states were represented by over 40 HBCUs and local colleges and universities. The FCBC College & Resource Fair not only highlights the importance of education but provides comprehensive information and workshops to help young people transition from high school to college.
In 2009, 10 Milwaukee area high school seniors were awarded $500 scholarships to honor their academic achievement and community involvement. The 2010 scholarships will be awarded during the HBCU Championship Game on November 27, 2010. For more information and to print out the scholarship application please visit www.freshcoastclassic.org.
