Madison, WI –Today partners of the Wisconsin Healthcare Access Network came together for their very first Day at the Capitol to highlight issues surrounding access to healthcare. Partners spent the day chatting with legislators and their staff about the major issues keeping Wisconsinites from getting the healthcare they needed.
“We really wanted to show our representatives that access to care issues affect patients and not just epilepsy patients or cancer patients, but all patients throughout Wisconsin,” said Gina Dennik-Champion, executive director of the Wisconsin Nurses Association.
“I am really glad we could be at the Capitol today with so many other wonderful advocacy groups to really highlight these issues.”
The Wisconsin Healthcare Access Network (WHAN) is made up of health groups from across Wisconsin. WHAN was formed to serve as a communications and resource network to keep its partners informed of threats to access to quality healthcare.
The network also exists as a medium to promote best practices for ensuring quality care.
“Our organizations working together can make a greater impact for our patient communities,” said Rob Gundermann the public policy director at the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin. “The WHAN member organizations represent thousands of patients and providers throughout our state and we all agree that access to care is an issue that our elected officials should be aware of.”
WHAN partners include the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Alliance of Wisconsin, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network – Wisconsin, Arthritis Foundation Upper Midwest Region – Wisconsin, Epilepsy Foundation Heart of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Women’s Health Foundation, America Liver Foundation Minnesota/Wisconsin office, Wisconsin Nurses Association, American Diabetes Association Wisconsin, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society – Wisconsin Chapter, National MS Society Wisconsin Chapter, American Lung Association in Wisconsin, Lupus Foundation of America Wisconsin Chapter, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin, and the Wisconsin Academy of Family Physicians.
