COUGARS are back with a vengeance! Hansberry’s remounted production comes on the heels of an explosive season celebrating theatre “Hansberry-Sands style.” Celeste Bedford Walker’s “Sassy Mamas” takes a look at the propulsive relationships of “mature” women and younger men. This colorful journey is told thru the eyes of three women of substance, who weave an entertaining web of antics that will have you screaming with laughter.
These contemptuous women who “know what they want and how to get it,” own the Cougar prodigy with their young, desirable, “boy toys” in tow.
Take caution with this new romantic comedy and sit back, relax, but keep your seat belts fastened, as this promises to be an unforgettable ride!
Walker is an award-winning playwright who has received numerous accolades which include: winner of the August Wilson Playwright’s Award at the 2009 National Black Theatre Festival and the NAACP Image Award for positive portrayal of African Americans in the media.
Her plays embrace the sacred and the mundane, the serious and the comedic, but what they all have in common is a delight in the wisdom of the human condition.
Walker’s work has been produced in cities throughout the United States including, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, Houston, Washington DC, and San Francisco.
