The Milwaukee branch of the NAACP continued its pledge to “Reform, Restore, Refocus: Affirming America’s Promises!” with its annual Freedom Fund Dinner, held Saturday, Sept. 24 at the Hyatt Regency, downtown.
The annual affair is the largest fundraiser for the branch and served as an opportunity to enlighten the community on the year’s successes for the branch. Branch president James Hall presented a unified front, as he outlined the various accomplishments from the past year, including the branch being recognized by the national organization for having the largest numbers of members of any branch in the association.
The Honorable Judge Greg Mathis served as the keynote speaker. Mathis ignited, inspired and challenged the audience to do work harder to uplift and support the community. Discussing the various socio-economic ills that plague our community, Mathis we, as a community, must change our circumstances by encouraging, mentoring and strengthening our youth.
