MILWAUKEE – Residents of Holton Terrace have invited their peers who live in other Housing Authority apartment buildings to a talent showcase that will feature more than 20 acts, including a poetry reading by 3rd District Alderwoman Milele Coggs. The event will be held from 2 pm – 6 pm, Saturday, July 26th at 2825 N. Holton Street, and is open to residents of the 15 Housing Authority apartment buildings designated for low-income seniors and disabled adults.
Titled “Jazz in our Park: A celebration of community,” the event seeks to overcome misconceptions about public housing by showcasing the varied talents of its residents, in addition to inviting neighborhood leaders like Ald. Coggs to participate.
“When I first moved into Holton Terrace, I quickly learned that each resident brought something special to the strong sense of community that exists,” said organizer Rickey McCaskill. “It’s important for everyone to look past the economic challenges that we face and recognize the value and unique talents of each individual.”
