“Lady in Red” Resale shop opened in December of last year at 7219 W. North Avenue in Wauwatosa. The boutique is well appointed, clean, inviting and filled with fashion forward finds.
The mission of its owner, Ladonna Telford, is to bring quality merchandise to women of all ages and sizes at a fraction of the retail price. Items range from gently used, to brand new, and I assure you, there is something for everyone!
Ladonna specializes in finding unique high end designer pieces with a keen eye for fashion and trends. She then passes her skill and savings on to the customer. With the state of the economy, a wise consumer would check with Lady in Red before heading to local retail department stores. You never know, the exact dress you are looking for may just be hanging on a rack waiting for you at a third of the price.
Ladonna has an assortment of items in her shop from shoes, bags, jewelry and of course clothes. She has truly created a “one stop shop” where you can find an entire outfit and, with her talent, and expertise you are guaranteed to leave looking fabulous. Quality name brand dresses are often marked down to a special sales price of $13. These more than competitive prices allow you the financial freedom to stretch your dollars further.
Ladonna also believes in catering to women of all shapes and sizes. She makes a point to put clothing for curvy voluptuous women in the front of her store. The marketing plan of most stores, especially retail chains, dictates that items for plus sized women belong towards the back of the store. Lady in Red wants every woman to feel beautiful, classy and accepted.
As a member of Greater New Birth Church, Ladonna is a Christian and she wholeheartedly believes in giving back to the community and tithing her time and talent. Lady in Red works with The Sojourner Truth House for women in domestic violence support groups to ensure that they are dressed for success. Ladonna believes in supporting others and building people up from the inside out, but also giving a self-esteem boost to those who need it most.
Another program that Lady in Red implemented is the Shoe Fund, which purchases a pair of Stride Rite Shoes for a needy child each month. Customers can drop a little change in the shoe fund and or the name of a needy child. The parent of the randomly drawn child is contacted and they can go directly to Stride Right and pick a pair of shoes for their child. The average person may take a pair of shoes for granted. However, there are so many needy children in our community and Lady in Red has committed to taking one small step towards making a change. Sure, a lesser quality pair of shoes could be purchased for $5 and donated, but Ladonna Telford believes in quality and if she wouldn’t wear it or put it on her own child’s feet, she wouldn’t expect her customers to buy it either.
Amongst her very reasonably priced items, I spotted several pairs of coach shoes, coach bags, a pair of Gucci shoes and a Fendi bag last time I was in the store. Ladonna has taken her passion for shopping and turned it into a business, so by default many of her awesome finds come from her very own closet. She only believes in selling authentic merchandise, so for what you would pay for a replica bag, you can carry the real thing.
Lady in Red is also currently taking consignment pieces for the upcoming spring and summer season. If you have some items you would like to sell, please feel free to bring cleaned and ready to hang clothing for consideration.
Please stop in and support Lady in Red where “If the dress fits, buy it” because I guarantee you can buy it for less here, and grab a bag, shoes and jewelry to match.
