Milwaukee-based Growing Power is now one step closer to establishing its pioneering vertical farm after Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett recently signed zoning legislation.

The Mayor’s approval of the General Plan Development marks the culmination of a process that included review by city staff, neighbors, commission members, and Aldermen.

Growing Power founder and CEO Will Allen joined Mayor Barrett at a signing ceremony at Growing Power on West Silver Spring Drive, which is the site of the proposed vertical farm.  Allen is a world-renowned authority in urban agriculture and a passionate champion of systems that deliver good food, produced close to population centers.

The proposed vertical farm is planned for the Growing Power location in the 5500 block of West Silver Spring Drive.  The five-story structure will be the site of several agricultural activities including growing crops, raising fish, and selling food produced on-site.
