In honor of September being Disaster Preparedness Month, the Milwaukee County Department on Aging will sponsor an educational event to help the community prepare prior to emergencies

On Friday, September 30, 2011 from 12:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. the Milwaukee County Department on Aging (MCDA) will hold a Community Emergency Preparedness Event for Seniors at Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 West Vliet Street, Milwaukee, WI 53208.

The Community Emergency Preparedness Event for Seniors is part three of the MCDA’s Emergency Preparedness Campaign. The Milwaukee County Department on Aging began its campaign in August by training internal staff and personnel from our provider agencies. Now, to commemorate September as Disaster Preparedness Month, MCDA will demonstrate our continued commitment to educating the community on how to prepare prior to an emergency by hosting and sponsoring a Community Emergency Preparedness Event for Seniors.

Seniors, family members, caregivers, and personnel from provider and community agencies are invited to attend. We are planning for approximately 200 individuals. The afternoon will be filled with FREE food, fun, prizes and most importantly education on how to stay informed, make a plan, and create a kit prior to a disaster. Several local and state agencies focused on disaster preparedness will be on hand to share information. The Milwaukee County Functional Needs Emergency Shelter Trailer will be on site for people to tour.

Space is limited.
