Milwaukee , Wisconsin is now on the ‘Natural Hair’ Map! After a hugely successful kickoff last year. Exciting events and new developments are rolling out fast so we hope you can join us to help make this culturally, rich, lifestyle experience even brighter and better as we welcome the 2012 ‘Evolution Tour’ to the greater Milwaukee area.
The idea to bring this national tour to Milwaukee came after Dr. Kanika Jamila, owner of Kosmik Kare, a small boutique style , appointment only day spa located on the corner of 7th and Capitol in Milwaukee’s Riverworks business district traveled to several similar shows promoting and selling her very own product line of ‘NatuRaw’ body and hair cosmetics, or ‘Kosmetiks’, as she spells it. Dr. Jamila is not only a UW-Milwaukee MBA graduate turned entrepreneur but also an educator and a certified Naturopathic doctor. After years of servicing many undereducated and under employed clients she immediately saw how these ‘Natural Hair’ events in other cities served multi purposes. Giving the community much needed access to education and information about overall health , positive lifestyle choices and available resources is a main priority for Kosmik Kare Day Spa where you can get full spa services like manicured nails, facials or a good back massage. Dr.Kanika offers holistic consultations and detox programs. She is also known and affectionately branded as ‘The Hood Doctor’ in her industry because she speaks a language of wellness and healing her clients that need it the most can understand. Dr. Kanika even wrote and self published a book telling her very own path to better health and made it into a ‘How to’ system entitled,The Kosmik Kare Detox Manual: A Journey to Self-Healing. Dr. Kanika also realized the positive and powerful economic impact these events had on many start up businesses, artists and non traditional vendors that were able to connect directly with their target market , network, trade and sell their merchandise. “The promotion of independent, professional, collective economic cooperation has a great ripple effect on our community. It makes dollars and it makes sense, especially considering the statistics and conditions facing families everywhere.” explains Dr. Jamila.
The Milwaukee Natural Hair Care Expo gathers the best educators, performers, stylists, vendors, models and artists to fill a great cultural void while addressing urgent community health concerns, family needs, natural beauty and hair care ignorance and this year economic empowerment will be a strong focus. As ‘The Hood Doctor’ explains, “Hair and beauty is big business in our communities, but so is our sickness, addictions, disease and poverty. It is time to have a serious meeting of the minds. We extend an emergency open invitation to everyone who can help or who needs help. ”
Due to the overwhelming response and filling the capacity of the Wisconsin African American Women’s Center in Milwaukee last year, this unique and enriching event had to be moved to a larger venue for 2012. Sunday, June 24th, 2012 the Milwaukee Natural Hair Care Expo will be at the Milwaukee Academy of Math and Science Academy located at 110 W. Burleigh Street. Expo doors open at 11am until 7pm.
Another an amazing and festive Expo of informative workshops, creative hair demonstrations, national vendors, delicious healthy food, family activities, top notch cultural performances and much more! The highly anticipated ‘Evolution” Hair and Fashion show segment highlighting many designers, stylists and production specialists, just like last year will surely excite the crowd!
“Milwaukee’s Expo was definitely a joyous surprise last year, it had everyone talking! We are looking to coming back on this year’s Evolution tour and make it even better!” says Malaika Tamu-Cooper of Baltimore, founder and director of the Natural Hair Care Expo. “That’s what ‘Evolution’ is all about”. she adds.
