New Common Council president sets date for special election to fill seat vacated by Willie Hines

City of Milwaukee Common Council President Michael J. Murphy has ordered a special election to be held on April 29, 2014 to fill the vacancy in the Fifteenth Aldermanic District of the City of Milwaukee to replace former Ald. and Common Council President Willie Hines, who resigned last week to take a position with the Housing Authority.

If a primary is necessary, it shall be held on April 1, 2014 (coinciding with the regularly scheduled Spring Election date). Circulation of nomination papers for candidates may begin today, February 11, 2014, and nomination papers must be filed no later than 5:00 p.m. March 4, 2014, in the office of the Election Commission, located at City Hall, 200 East Wells, Room 501, Milwaukee. Candidacy for Aldermanic District seats require between 200 and 400 valid nomination signatures for certification as sufficient and placement on a ballot.

Any person with the intent of running for this office must file a Campaign Registration Statement and Declaration of Candidacy with the Election Commission prior to raising funds or incurring expenses related to a campaign.
