Milwaukee, WI —To celebrate its 25th anniversary, The New Horizon Center, Inc. will host a signature dinner event beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 at the Hilton City Center Hotel, 509 W. Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Milwaukee.
This celebration will bring together non profit leaders, elected officials and members of the community to recognize the work that has been accomplished by New Horizon Center in providing quality programs that have served thousands of youth and families in southeastern Wisconsin.
The Center’s celebration will begin with a silent auction featuring donations from the Milwaukee Bucks, the Milwaukee County Zoo and Koss Factory.
A social service agency specializing in Group Homes, and Treatment Foster Care, New Horizon Center was co-founded on December 2, 1985 by President and CEO Saleem El-Amin and the late Opal Veal. Our doors were first opened at the former Holy Angels Rectory located at 3790 N. 12th Street after receiving a $10,000 loan from Jeff and Catherine Crawford, the parents of co-founder El-Amin. Services began by working with young males from Ethan Allen and Lincoln Hills schools for boys. New Horizon Center has broadened its scope and now operates three group homes for males and females, a child placement agency, a Crisis Stabilization and Mentoring Program as well as Day Care Center(opening late 2010). These programs and services have been helping youth and families set new directions in their lives.
The keynote speaker for the dinner is Reverened Dr. Earl A. Neil, from Johannesburg, South Africa. He is the former pastoral assistant at Trinity Episcopal/Anglican Church in Washington DC. Father Neil worked on the staff of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Nelson Mandela during the early 1990s developing and coordinating programs for the resettlement of exiles and preparing them for the first South African democratic elections held in 1994.
Tickets for the 25th Anniversary celebration are $65.00 per person or $650 for a table of 10. All proceeds will assist New Horizon Center in continuing our mission to make a difference in the lives of those in need.
