Community members and representatives from the Christopher Wade Jr., Israel Brown, and Robert Torres Jr. families gathered at the intersection of N. 51st Street and W. Meinecke Avenue Saturday teach children how to safely cross the street.
The event, organized by Tracy Dent and the Peace for Change Alliance, was in response to the recent tragic accidents in which three young boys were hit by vehicles.
On Tuesday, April 17, Christopher Wade Jr. was hit by a mini-van on 51st Street. He died from his injuries two days later.
Just one month later, on Wednesday, May 16, Israel Brown was killed when he was struck by a pickup truck as he ran across the street in front of his school.
On June 11, five-year-old, Robert Torres Jr. was in critical condition after he was struck in a hit-and-run crash that occurred 4500 block of N. Teutonia Ave.
After witnessing the impact of these tragic incidents, Dent said “we must teach our children how to cross the street!”
Quadrevion Henning Foundation also participated in Saturday’s safety event.
