Mark your calendars, because on June 3, Pharrell Williams will be performing at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater for an interactive concert directed by none other than Spike Lee.
Can’t make it to Manhattan? Simply hop online to experience the exciting collaboration.
The concert is the latest installment ofAmerican Express’ UNSTAGED series, which, in partnership with Vevo and YouTube, pairs musical acts and directors for live concerts that are simultaneously broadcasted online.
The series kicked off in 2010 with Arcade Fire and Terry Gilliam and has since featured St. Vincent and Diane Von Furstenberg, Jack White and Gary Oldman, and more. This will be Lee’s second appearance in the series, after directing John Legend and The Roots for a concert in 2010.
“Pharrell and I have been friends for years and we’ve talked about working together, and now it’s coming to fruition and I’m happy about that -– we both are,” Lee said in an interview with The New York Times.
“I think it was a great choice by Pharrell to have his concert there [at the Apollo],” he added. “It’s one of the great places for music in the world, when you think of all the people who’ve come across the stage.”
Adding to the concert’s interactive mission, fans can start submitting their photos to be featured in a mosaic and will have the opportunity to “unlock” backstage content through Twitter with directions provided during the show.
