On occasion, instead of profiling something “shameful,” we will present a positive occurrence in our community. Case in point is the above photo showing Black men actually working on a street construction project in our community. Apparently the Shame photo in our September 29 edition, which showed White construction workers working on King Drive while able-bodied and unemployed Black men walked by, touched a nerve in the corridors of city government (at least that’s what we’d like to think). Hopefully it did and this photo illustrates the first of a number of changes as it relates to hiring Black men for jobs in this city, especially road construction. (Photo by Harry Kemp)
