Kissing may seem like a basic skill, but this simple gesture is one that can raise arousal to an all-time high! Words may not be coming out of your mouth while in a lip lock, but kissing is the portal to a deeper understanding of your partner. The lips contain a vast series of nerve endings, and when you kiss someone, you send every message of your desire and passion through that intimate embrace.
Translation? Kissing is a skill that has to be mastered like any other. Here are a few basic tips on how to be a great kisser!
When it comes to any sexual act, hygiene is the number one thing that needs to be monitored and held to a high standard. White teeth, fresh breath and soft lips are the very basics of the perfect kiss.
First, you want to be aware of your partner’s STI status, because the mouth can carry a lot of harmful infections, such as herpes. I know it may seem like a bit of a buzz kill to mention, but it’s better to be aware of the risks than to jump into a situation with someone unknowingly and catch something. So get tested, know your status, and share your status with your partner.
It’s also very important to maintain the health of your lips every day. The lips need to be pleasing to the eye and touch, so making sure that your lips are properly moisturized and free of dead skin is key.
Men, I know it may seem a bit feminine to pay attention to your lips, but no woman wants to feel like she is kissing sandpaper! Carmex, chap stick, or even cocoa butter are great basic options for you to carry with you.
Ladies, the above basic options will work for you as well, but if you want to give your lips an extra pop of allure, try a lip gloss.
To remove any dead skin from your lips, gently rub a tooth brush dipped in sugar or a lip scrub along your lips.
Lastly, brushing your teeth and keeping your breath fresh is a given. Bad breath will turn anyone off. Use a tongue scraper to keep the tongue clean and to help freshen breath. Don’t forget to floss to reach areas that your toothbrush can’t. After flossing, rinse with mouthwash. Carrying breath mints or chewing gum will help keep things fresh while you’re on the go.
Personally, I keep a tooth brush and travel-sized bottle of mouthwash with me.
Lip to Lip Contact
You can pucker your lips to land a simple peck. Or you can part your lips slightly. Lightly brushing your lips together can create a tingly feeling of anticipation. Using the teeth to lightly graze the bottom lip can express your aggressive side. Remember to have fun! Be spontaneous and open to experimenting to see what feels right for both of you. And just relax!
Some people are sloppy kissers. Others keep it neat and clean when it comes to saliva. This said, no one wants to be drowned in a pool of it during a lip lock, so make sure to monitor this exchange. You want to give your partner a kiss they’ll never forget…for the RIGHT reasons.
