Sue & Bud Selig and Irma & John Daniels will be honored as COA Youth & Family Centers’ 2012 Parents of the Year on Tuesday June 26 at the Italian Community Center. Arrivals begin at 11:30 a.m., with luncheon at noon and the event concluding promptly at 1:30 p.m. The Italian Community Center is at 631 East Chicago Street

Since 1982, COA has honored outstanding Parents of the Year. “COA knows that some of the most complex social problems can be improved when the whole family is engaged,” said Tom Schneider, Executive Director of COA. “Parental involvement is at the heart of everything that COA does, so it is a highlight each year to pay tribute to couples who not only excel as community members, but who are shining examples of strong and involved parents.”

Bud Selig is Commissioner of Major League Baseball and the former owner of the Milwaukee Brewers, and Sue Selig is active in the local arts and Jewish communities as well as a former Board member of COA. John Daniels has been the chairman of Quarles & Brady LLP since 2007 and has been with the firm since 1974, and Irma Daniels retired from teaching in 2004 after more than 25 years in the classroom.

For 106 years, COA Youth & Family Centers has served Milwaukee children, teens, and families. It provides early childhood education, youth development, adult education/community services, family support services, and camping programs at its two urban youth centers, at six MPS Community Learning Centers, and at its rural camp facility in central Wisconsin.

Charity Navigator (a national evaluator of nonprofit organizations) recently rated COA Youth & Family Centers the highest-ranking nonprofit agency in Wisconsin across all categories, as well as the number one Children’s & Family Services agency in the entire nation. These rankings are based on financial efficiency, accountability, and transparency.
