Wouldn’t it be great if someone created a diet that would not only help you lose weight, but also keep you healthy and even help prevent cancer? Well, someone has. It’s called the ketogenic diet, or the Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) diet.
What is it, and why is it called ketogenic?
A ketogenic diet is a diet that eliminates carbohydrates and sugars and replaces them with healthy fats and healthy, high-quality protein.
Ketones are substances that are made when the body breaks down fat for energy. Ketosis is a natural metabolic state when the body produces ketone bodies out of fat and uses them for energy instead of carbs. There are several products available without a prescription for ketone testing, such as ketosis test strips that turn color when exposed to a urine stream, that let you know when your body is producing ketones.
Why is this diet good for cancer prevention?
#1 – It helps restore healthy genes
#2 – It reduces inflammation which causes almost all diseases
#3 – It stimulates the immune system
#4 – It slows and even stops degenerative diseases
Cancer cells feed on sugar, so a diet that eliminates sugars provides nothing for cancer cells to feed on. The same applies to eliminating carbs, since carbs also turn into sugar.
Since too much protein can also turn to sugar, the recommended ratio is 75 percent healthy fats, 23 percent protein, and 2 percent carbohydrates, according to The Truth About Cancer, an online resource that provides information on prevention and treatment of cancer.
