I love decorating the home and cooking just as my mother did. Every season I rearrange and add a few new pieces to my home to welcome and embrace that season.
This fall I have been restocking foods and other items to prepare for fall and I sat to think about why I bought certain items. Then what came to my mind was that I’m creating a home environment.
So, I began to do some research on a house vs. a home and I was amazed to find this is even a subject. I have heard the term many times and I also think of Luther Vandross’s song “a house is not a home.”
So, let us take note of some of the things needed to turn your house into a home.
A fully stocked fridge, I was surprised at this one, but when I clean the house, I need a clean stocked fridge too. It all makes sense and when the fridge is stocked you will pass on dinner dates and opt for a nice home cooked meal instead.
Family pictures in the home, I will admit this is something I amcurrently doing, because I am getting tired of having 8 years of google memories of photos saved on my phone, so I decided to print them out and add my old family photos from decades ago as well.
Living plants, this one is my goto, I must have real plants in my home. The fake ones are great decorating add-ons; however, real plants really make a house a home. They also have other benefits like cleaning the air.
Cook! Leave the house smelling of fresh baked bread, cakes, or a pot of soup. I remember coming to my aunt’s home and when I hit the front door, I would smell dinner cooking before I went in. This will leave your guests and your family feeling special and loved.
There are several other ways to make your house a home like adding art, other memorable items, meeting your neighbors and so on. Do your research and try what makes you feel at home, and you will see how this will change your mind and attitude and you will begin to appreciate your home and those around you.
Welcome home,
