Festival season is in full swing, and I wanted to take some time to make sure you are prepared for your festivities. Going out to any event requires the proper planning to make sure you have a wonderful time. Something as simple as hurting feet can ruin the entire day, so I am here to help you have a wonderful time.
Before you leave home, eat something! My mother has always told me “Don’t go to a party hungry” and this is true for going anywhere honestly. Even if you eat a piece of fruit, some crackers, or a light meal. When going out the food might not be what you want or expected or there might be long lines or food shortages.
Take cash and your card, they go hand in hand. Some people only carry cash, and some only carry cards, but you need them both. I take at least $60 in cash for things like parking, tipping, and vendor Wi-Fi outages. Some vendors’ card systems could be down for the moment, or they could be cash only and one thing the pandemic has taught us is nothing is the same anymore, so take both.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes. A few weeks ago, my friend Tracey and I went to the night market, and I was impressed with her outfit. It was cute and comfortable, she was so prepared, and she even wore a hat to block the sun and sunscreen. Her outfit was very stylish, and she topped it off with tennis shoes to make sure her feet were comfortable.
Purchase items you want to take home on your way out. Do not carry anything extra so you might have to double back afterwards to get the items you want to take as souvenirs or to enjoy later like art. It is also a clever idea to pack an extra bag or backpack to help with carrying your items because most merchants do not have bags.
Instead of buying separate meals, share with your friends so you can visit multiple vendors. Eating a big meal can make you sluggish and tired in the heat, so eat small portions and if you want a bigger meal make that a stop on your way home.
I hope you read something that will help you enjoy your time outside this summer and the best advice is take some selfies and have fun!
Happy Summer,
