Leach Johnson will become the first woman to chair the firm and the first chair who is not based at the downtown Milwaukee headquarters at 411 E. Wisconsin Ave.
Johnson will succeed John Daniels Jr. effective Oct. 1. Daniels will serve as chairman emeritus and will provide strategic counseling to business clients with an emphasis on financial services, health care and mid-market growth entities.
During Daniels’ term as chairman, Quarles & Brady has been expanding its offices in Washington, D.C., Tampa and elsewhere. The firm has eight offices in the United States and an office in Shanghai, China.
Leach Johnson practices law in trusts and estates. She has extensive experience representing families in the planning of their estates and the handling of affairs after deaths of family members, the firm said.
The selection of Leach Johnson as chair makes Quarles & Brady one of only six American Lawyer 200 firms with a woman as chair, the firm said.
Leach Johnson most recently chaired the firm’s finance committee and formerly was managing partner of Quarles & Brady’s Naples and Tampa offices. She also serves as a member of the firm’s elected executive committee.
