In 2021, the easiest way to communicate is through text. Since cell phones and computers arrived, it seems the urge to hand write anything has almost become obsolete. When in reality, writing is one of the most important things we can do.
Oftentimes we hear people dismiss writing because they feel it takes too long or they feel it’s useless. But it’s been proven that writing helps in more ways than we can think of. Writing has been a very important part of history and always will.
I personally enjoy writing and encouraging others to write because there’s many benefits.
Self Awareness
Writing your feelings, your plans, and your struggles can really help. When you write things down, you can see things from a more clear perspective. You’re able to assess and have a moment to process. You get the real you. Whether you’re happy or bothered, writing down how you feel and how you want to feel can change your mood and even help change your life.
Memories
Sometimes experiences can be relived through writing. Maybe you had a dream. If you want to capture it, write it down. This allows you to dig deeper in your happenings. Maybe you had a big day that was everything you dreamed of. Maybe you had a bad day that you don’t want to forget. Either way, writing is there to help you remember, always. After all history is always written.
Eliminates Stress
Writing helps to eliminate stress. If you’re ever having a moment or extremely upset, forcing yourself to write can be very freeing. When you right exactly how you’re feeling, when you get done, you will feel so much better. Writing can transfer energy. It can come from you to the paper itself. It’s been statistically proven and I can say I’ve personally had my share of experiences myself. Writing has the ability to take you to another place.
Focus
Writing can also help you focus on what you need to do. Having a bunch of disorganized thoughts doesn’t help when you’re looking to progress or get things done. Having your to-do list or writing down why you want/need to do something triggers your mind to focus. It helps you dissect your thinking and keeps you on track.
If you’re someone that doesn’t write often, I encourage you to try. Try it and see how you feel. See where it goes. You never the true power of writing until you do.
