Having a rough start to the day? No worries. It’s only the beginning. Granted, how you start your day typically effects your overall mood. Nonetheless, if you’re just starting your day and things are off, you have the ability to change it.
How you started your day doesn’t HAVE to dictate the type of day you will have. You just have to press the restart button. Yes. There’s a red button inside your brain that you can press and it will restart your entire life. lol okay, maybe there isn’t. But you can create a ritual that tells your brain to calm down and try it again.
See, one of the advantages of being human is our ability to develop self control. If we work hard enough at the lifestyle that we want we can achieve and control so much more. Now, this isn’t always easy and sometimes it’s the furthest thing from a quick fix. Either way, it’s definitely possible to develop.
Most times when people mention this “button” I speak of, it’s called a “happy place.” A happy place is a memory, a situation, or an activity that makes you feel happy. It’s a place which a person associates with happiness, visualized as a means of reducing stress or calming down. It’s a safe place that no one can take from you.
But of course, this “happy place” is a place that no one can take from you. It’s also a place that only you can create. You have the ability to create your happy place just for you! So what are you waiting for?
Here’s a few suggestions while finding the perfect happy place for you:
Take a time out.
One thing life never stops is going. No matter what the life clock is ticking. This can be a positive and a negative thing at the same time. The pressure from the clock never stopping can encourage anxiety. But the same clock can be calming; letting you know there’s still time left. Either way, take a moment to yourself. Just sit there and allow your thoughts to flow. Feel how you feel.
Do something you love.
Maybe you need to channel some energy. Maybe something’s bothering you but you know you need to let it go. So do something you love to do, whether it’s dancing, singing, playing an instrument, writing, gaming, planning, or driving. Put your negative feelings to the side and do what you love.
Take a breather, outside.
There’s something about the outdoors that can be very calming; Hearing the birds chirp and cars go by; seeing pedestrians walking their dogs and babies in strollers; watching the sun rise or the clouds move. Just go outside and “be”. Maybe ride to the lake. Watch the waves or listen. Close your eyes and breathe.
Read a book.
Your mood is all about consumption. So read a book that feeds your mind. Maybe reread your favorite book. Put yourself in a happy position; a place you’ve been before.
Call a friend.
Friends have such an impact on our lives. Whether your friends laugh with you or speak life into you, they hold a lot of weight in your life. If you’re feeling some type of way, phone a friend that you know will put you in a good mood. Get that energy right. Refuel from the ones you love the most.
All of these are nearly suggestions but the real deal is in the hands of you. So what’s your happy place? How did you find it? How often do you go there? Share below.
