A few weeks ago, I gave you a few tips on how to prepare the home for Spring and I promised you guys I would give you a few tips on Planting. To me a house is made a home by giving it life and the best way to do that is by having real plants in it.
Fake plants are beautiful, however there is a major difference between fake plants and real plants. Real plants are a better choice because they keep you healthy, clean the air, reduce stress, reduce noise levels, and boost your mood.
I remember growing up cleaning our house on Saturday mornings and my mother would have us move the indoor plants to the front porch while it rained and after we finished cleaning, we would bring the plants back inside and there was no better feeling than having a clean home decorated with plants soaked in fresh rain.
Each type of plant has specific benefits and some of my favorites are Spider plants, because they are easy to keep, Aloe vera plants, because they supply aloe that you can snip and use when burned or after shaving to soothe the skin, and the Boston Fern which is nontoxic for pets.
When potting plants, I pick a sunny Saturday morning and go to my local florist to pick up a few plants, potting soil, gloves, small shovel, plant food (sticks), planting pots, and some newspaper to line the table. I also buy a few garden figures to put in the pots on top of the soil for a special touch.
I usually plant about 2 or 3 new plants every year and place them in every room. Make sure to place them in a well-lit area for natural light and fresh air, and water often. You can also name them and encourage them to grow.
Make sure as your baby grows you get a bigger pot and repot it, to make more room for it to grow. Also feed your baby by sticking plant food sticks inside the soil every two months.
Planting new plants can be fun and you can get the whole family involved, you can also take small plants to work and decorate your desk or you can wrap them and add a label to give as gifts. I hope this will help you as you start your planting season and don’t forget to clean up afterwards (lol).
Happy Planting,
