With a simple sentence posted on his Website, Tiger Woods announced that he will play in the Masters, which began Monday, with official practice rounds on the course at Augusta National.
“It’s obviously very important to me, and I want to be there,” said Woods, who at one time was the world’s No. 1 golfer. Because of his back injuries, he has been unable to play and he has dropped out of the top 100 of the world’s best golfers.
Woods played two practice rounds last week at Augusta National. He is scheduled to meet with the news media today, according to the Masters website.
Woods will be among a field of 98 players that will participate in the tournament which officially opens Thursday, April 9 and closes with the final round scheduled for Sunday, April 12. The winner of the Masters is awarded a coveted green jacket and Woods has already earned four of them. The last time he won was in 2005 with an overall score of 275.
