With less than 60 days until the 2012 presidential election, local Milwaukee leaders are firing up young voters. On September 18th in Milwaukee Area Technical College’s (MATC) Cooley Auditorium, 700 W. State Street, the League of Young Voters and MATC will bring cultural tastemakers and political activists together for #Ignite2012, aimed at addressing the most critical issues affecting young Milwaukee residents between the ages of 18-35.
#Ignite2012 will start at 11 a.m. with an open panel discussion, followed by break out sessions. The event will culminate with a panel and concert.
#Ignite2012 will provide a platform for the city’s young leaders to dialogue directly with the nation’s most dynamic celebrities, bloggers, and activists to discuss both what it will take to move our city forward and proactive strategies to engage urban Millennials in the democratic process. #Ignite Milwaukee is the kick-off event in the national #Ignite2012 tour, which will encompass grassroots training, expert panelists, and live musical performances by Dee-1, Aliesa Nicole, and Jasiri X. The goal of #Ignite2012 is to reignite the youth vote and inspire 100,000 young voters to participate in the 2012 election.
Several groundbreaking activists and national tastemakers on the panel include: Biko Baker, Milwaukee Resident and Executive Director of the League of Young Voters; David Banner, Hip-Hop artist and philanthropist; Chuck Creekmur, Founder of AllHipHop.com; Janee Bolden, Senior Editor at Bossip;Andreas Hale, Founder of The Well Versed;Malik Rhasaan, Founder of #OccupytheHood; Paradise Gray, Co-founder of One Hood Media.
