In early November, nine former Milwaukee Public School teachers were honored by the Historic African American Teachers (HAAT) of MPS, an organization formed several months ago to honor and recognize the contributions of retired Black teachers. The November honorees were (from left to right): Shellie Johnson, Alicia Bishop, Francies Jefferson, Retha Simmons, Elzola Stanley, Elcendia Nord, Geraldine Fowlkes, Mary Artis and Liz Sims. The event was held at Serb Hall on Oklahoma Avenue. (Photo by Harry Kemp)
