The MCLD Hosts its 1st Annual Luncheon to promote Intentional Excellence in Education!
On Wednesday, December 1, 2010, the Milwaukee Center for Leadership Development (MCLD) will introduce the Milwaukee community to a highly successful youth development model that has been in operation for 33 years in Indianapolis, Indiana at its 1st Annual Luncheon at the Italian Conference Center at 11:30 a.m.
This event will feature State Representative Jason Fields who has long been a staunch supporter of excellence in education and accountability. In addition to serving on the Committee for Education Reform, Representative Fields has made it clear that if we are to see real change, it will have to be a community effort.
The Milwaukee CLD delivers quality after school and weekend college prep programming for youth in grades 4-12, based upon the model of the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) of Indianapolis. Originally developed by S. Henry Bundles, a descendent of Madam CJ Walker, this model has seen phenomenal outcomes over the years.
From a 95 % retention rate to an 80% college attendance rate, the youth involved truly are understanding the value of education, recognizing their options and reaping the benefits.
Executive Director, Tamiko Jordan-Obregon (also former VP of the CLD of Indianapolis) will provide details about the driving forces behind the success of the organization. “It seems so simple, yet it is often overlooked – the expectation factor. We lay out the expectations, explain the value and guide the youth participants and their parents to success,” she stated. She went on to say, “ With Indy and Milwaukee having eerily similar demographics and difficulties in education, replicating the CLD programs in Milwaukee seemed inevitable as I sat as the VP (of CLD) in Indianapolis.”
The Milwaukee CLD is steadfast in their commitment to excellence and they are excited to now be of service to the city of Milwaukee. Information for sponsorships and individual tickets for this event can be found on the Milwaukee CLD website at www.milwcld.org.
