A group of volunteers from Northwestern Mutual pitched in to make a Head Start site a better place for preschool children.
The volunteers from the Milwaukee based business gathered at the Head Start- 78th Street site of the Social Development Commission to paint the facility and reorganize a nurse’s station. They stepped up for the assistance through United Way of Greater Milwaukee’s Day of Caring Program. That annual effort matches volunteers from area businesses with programs and services that need help.
The Northwestern Mutual volunteers said they were happy to be able to help at the SDC Head Start site, saying it is a concrete way to give back to the community every year. One of them, Heather Deaton, said the volunteer opportunity is also a chance to reflect back on the needs that exist in the Milwaukee area and to make a difference in how programs addressing those needs are able to serve residents.
