Old Landmark Deliverance Outreach Ministries

As I write this Thanksgiving Note on thoughts about why someone should be Thankful, especially on Thanksgiving, I’m amazed to see the many many Bible passages about giving thanks. I am reminded that many people are struggling right now just to make ends meet, but I think too many of us overlook one of the best holidays we celebrate – Thanksgiving.
Have you ever thought about making Thanksgiving your favorite Holiday of all? As a young child I grew to love Thanksgiving. My folks wanted to guide us in a way that would cause us to reflect on our life and why God put us upon the earth.
One of our Thanksgiving chores was to read a Bible passage about being Thankful right after we said Grace but before we could dig into that turkey bird. It just about killed us too we were so hungry. One of the many lessons in our upbringing was to learn what God would have us know about being thankful.
I grew to like many Bible Passages which reflected on Thanksgiving, for example Psalm 106:1 ESV Praise the Lord! Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever! At first, I had to learn about God’s Love and that a lot of the things we had for this Thanksgiving Day feast actually came from him.
I learned that I could pray to God for my special private request to him/her. Yes, I learned that I could talk privately with God and that I should be Thankful for this mode of communications. Philippians 4:6 ESV. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
But through it all, I learned not just to be thankful for just things like candy and gifts but to be Thankful for the good people that so enriched my life. People, not candy or earthly possessions. I learned that it was far more important not to store up things on this earth as my treasures but store up Treasures in Heaven. When my father would read from the Bible passages like Matthew 6:19-21 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
With the proper Christian upbringing, I can now give Thanks and Praise to God for all he has given me, for the wonderful people he has given me in my life and how good God has been to me each and every day. I thank Him that I still have good teeth because I learned what was important for Halloween throughout the Christmas seasons.
