Your Milwaukee Community Journal celebrates the Legends of our community at 35th annual gala

Twelve individuals representing politics, religion, civil service, media, the arts, business, education, the law, medicine and legacy builders were honored before a packed Italian Conference Center Saturday, August 6, as the Community Journal recognized them for being legends in their community, city and state.

And the winners were: Law-Municipal Judge Derek Mosley, Elected Officials-State Senator Lena Taylor, Religion-Mother Annie Naomi Scott, founder of the Scott Christian Youth Fellowship and Recreation Center; Civil/Social Service-Saleem El-Amin, president and CEO of New Horizon Center, Inc.; Business-Cordelia Taylor, founder and president of Family House; Arts/Music-Florence Dukes, former executive director of the Milwaukee Inner City Arts Council; Education-Educator and former MPS Superintendent Dr. Howard L. Fuller.

In the Legacy Builders category there was a tie. Youth counselor Torre Johnson and Danae Davis, CEO of PEARLS for Teen Girls, Inc. Medical-Noted physician Dr. William Finlayson.

There was another tie in the Media category between WMCS 1290 owner and businessman Willie Davis and Joanne Williams, former television reporter with WITI Fox 6. She is now with MPTV.
