The annual effort to help inspire young women to consider a future in public service and leadership will take place next week (virtually) during the 11th annual Girls’ Day @ City Hall on Thursday, March 25, sponsored by the City of Milwaukee and Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs. Girls’ Day is co-sponsored by Alderwoman Chantia Lewis, Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd, Alderwoman Marina Dimitrijevic and Alderwoman JoCasta Zamarripa.
The event will allow attendees to have the opportunity to virtually meet and be inspired by a number of local leaders. The event will include panel discussions and workshops in addition to opportunities for active engagement and involvement with several public service-oriented organizations and entities focused on young women and led by women.
Mayor Tom Barrett is scheduled to provide introductory remarks during the event.
Registration is required, and the online registration form can be accessed at: www.milwaukee.gov/GirlsDay.
Girls’ Day exposes girls (middle school to high school age) to possible careers in public service and elected office. Young students will engage in stimulating discussions that enable them to push through fears and succeed. The alderwomen encourage young women across Milwaukee to participate in this virtual event in hopes of inspiring the next generation to organize goals and expectations for their futures.
“In increasingly greater numbers young women are envisioning themselves in key public sector leadership roles in the future, because they know opportunities will be there and because they are interested in making a positive impact in the community,” the Alderwomen said. “We believe it is a key reason for the strong interest and participation we have seen in Girls’ Day at City Hall, and this year will be no different.”
