More than a hundred people have marked the completion of coursework that strengthened their relationships with their significant others. The Healthy Relationship and Marriage Enhancement Program of the Social Development Commission (SDC) conducted their 4th Annual Winter Graduation Program.
The residents completed classes designed for couples, singles, men and women during the past year aimed at strengthening their bonds and increasing their communication skills. Many of the participants stepped forward during the ceremony to thank the program for helping make their relationships much stronger and successful. Fiancés Alford Brown and LaDonna Andrews came forward as a couple and described how they had learned that to do things “our way” rather than “my way.”
SDC Commissioner Virgie Wynn Martin, who had participated with her husband in some of the courses prior to joining the Board, spoke to those attending the graduation ceremony. She told the grads that the day was a stepping stone in their lives together and that by applying what they learned every day, they would become better wives, husbands and couples.
SDC Commissioner Gail Winston also addressed those at the ceremony. She urged them to support the program and write to legislative representatives urging future funding of the program. The SDC Healthy Relationship and Marriage Enhancement Program looks to build stronger communities, one relationship at a time.
