Have you ever met a person who decided to try something new but also made it seem like they already knew everything they were about to get into? Have you ever been a person determined to get somewhere you’ve never been but refused to take some constructive criticism? In other words, have you ever been in your own way, while attempting to complete a task?
It’s so easy to get caught up in our egotistical thoughts when trying something new. We tell ourselves, “I got this,” or “I’m good,” or “everything’s going to work out,” or “I don’t need any help or guidance,” when in reality, you need all the help and guidance you can afford. Staying in the “I don’t need help” mindset only hinders your growth and development.
Having a mentor has often times come with a bad connotation although it’s literally one of best things a person with a goal could do. Mentors are useful for so many reasons.
1. Mentors are Knowledgeable
Mentors are people who have been there, done that. They aren’t new to the task at hand. In fact, they’re very knowledgeable. They have information that will set you apart from the average individual in your position. You can learn so much from a mentor who’s already been where you are; as long as you’re coachable.
2. Mentors Perspective
A mentor typically has been where you are, therefore they can help direct you where you need to go. They can see your strengths and weaknesses. They can see where you’re doing great and what needs to be improved. They’re looking from the outside in. That helps to give you the correction that you need.
3. Mentors Encouragement
Nobody can push you like a mentor that truly believes in you. They have the ability to connect with you on multiple levels. They can see things you may not be able to see. They can see things coming that you can’t. Mentors find their way to motivate and strengthen you whether it’s a harsh objective at hand or a good job completed. A great mentor will push you in ways you can’t imagine.
4. Mentor Connects
Mentors have a way of know who to connect you with. With their connections, they see the potential connects for you. Meeting the right person can go a long way. You never know, connecting with the right person could instantly change your life.
5. Mentor Experiences
Mentors are great for experiences. They know how to bring the experiences you need to life. They will open doors you wouldn’t have had unless you connected with them. They can create experiences for you.
All in all, never underestimate the power of a mentor. Get you one. Listen more. Watch how your life will change.
