Alderman Khalif J. Rainey said the public is invited to a free community engagement event this Sunday (June 12) designed to bring people together in a spirit of unity to help build stronger families and a stronger city.
Organized by Parklawn Assembly of God Church, the Unity in the Community: Beyond the Walls event will take place Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sherman Park, 3000 N. Sherman Blvd.
The event will include a family cookout, family friendly activities (haircuts, games, horseback rides, etc.), a worship service, and a celebration of the arts. There will also be a resource hub with agencies, based in the Sherman Park community, supporting residents in areas related to employment, housing, violence prevention, reducing recidivism, domestic violence and mental health.
“I want to thank Parklawn Assembly of God and the many partners for helping to bring together all of the resources to make the Unity in the Community event possible, and I strongly encourage everyone to make plans to attend this engaging, fun and positive event,” Alderman Rainey said.
