Would you like to know what it feels like to walk in the shoes of a Milwaukee Police officer? How do they make life and sometimes death decisions daily? One safe way to find out is the Citizens Academy in which a class just started. The academy gives citizens an in-depth look at the department and the training that officers undergo. The department is attempting a positive interaction between officers and citizens in the city. This new class of citizens will run from Tuesday, March 12, to Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Applicants will be subject to a background check. Applicants must be a resident of the City of Milwaukee or active in the City of Milwaukee. At least 21 years of age. Have no felony convictions within the last 15 years. Lastly, no criminal charges pending. The classes run from 6:00pm to 9:00pm on Tuesday nights. Those who complete the 7-week program will receive a certificate of completion at the Citizen Academy Graduation.
Milwaukee County is putting out a new crash data system which will allow you to find out where the most crashes are occurring in the county. We all think we know where most of these crashes are occurring, but this will allow us to know for sure. This data is important because it will let us know where we should use our resources to make locations safer. One thing the system has is advanced GPS and motion sensors to detect a crash. They will quickly notify emergency services and provide your location details to get the help you need as soon as possible. Seat belts are the best defense against impaired, aggressive, and distracted drivers. Being buckled up will keep you safe inside of your vehicle. People who are ejected from a vehicle are most always killed from the collision. The past several weeks there have been some deadly accidents around the city, county, and state. Remember to always drive defensively and look out for the other drivers.
The warm weather is coming a lot sooner than usual this year. We all love the nice weather and entire being outside. Just remember always being aware of your surroundings and keep an eye out for suspicious activity. Lock your car doors because some people go around just checking doors. Park in a well-lit area if possible. Lock your doors at your home and do not leave your windows open without some safety measures. Now I am not trying to scare anyone but just use common sense so we will all have a fun and safe summer.
