As part of Black History Month, Alderwoman Milele A. Coggs is hosting the annual Black History Month Read-In that will take place virtually TODAY – Thursday, February 24 at 5:00 p.m. The event will be held via Zoom and Facebook, and parents and children of all ages are invited to attend. Alderwoman Coggs, a library board member, is sponsoring the read-in in recognition of the 32nd National African-American Read-In, a program that promotes diversity in literature in partnership with the Milwaukee Public Library.
The read-in will feature short, heartfelt stories about African-American culture and history, as well as stories written by African-American authors. This year’s guest readers include Alderwoman Coggs, Alderwoman Chantia Lewis, Alderwoman Nikiya Dodd, Alderman Ashanti Hamilton, Alderman Russell W. Stamper, II and Alderman Khalif J. Rainey.
“Black History Month encompasses so many aspects of our culture, and the annual read-in is a great way to share these compelling stories with families,” said Alderwoman Coggs. “I would encourage interested families to register for the event now for what promises to be a fantastic event filled with a wide array of diverse stories.”
The Black History Month Read-In is free and open to everyone. Participants are asked to register for the virtual event here.
The virtual read-in will also be available for viewing on the Milwaukee Public Library website and Facebook page, in addition to the City Channel (channel 25 on Spectrum Cable and channel 99 on AT&T U-Verse in the City of Milwaukee) and via streaming video on the city website at city.milwaukee.gov/Channel25.
