All caregivers of adults with special health care needs are invited to attend
St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care now offers a caregiver support group to all caregivers of adults with special health care needs in the metro Milwaukee area. The group will meet biweekly on Wednesdays from 1 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. at the Stein Campus, 2801 E. Morgan Ave. in St. Francis. Your loved ones does not need to take part in St. Ann Center services for you to attend this support group.
The next meeting takes place April 17 at 1 P.M.
St. Ann Center is a dual-campus, non-profit organization offering dignified, age-appropriate and enriching day programming, health and wellness services, and overnight respite for frail seniors and adults with emotional and physical healthcare needs.
“Because of the work St. Ann Center does — many of its staff are or have been family caregivers, too — we understand that caregiving is hard, often lonely, work,” said St. Ann Center President and CEO, Sr. Edna Lonergan, OSF. “We know that caregivers are so devoted to their loved ones, but are also often exhausted and living with daily guilt for needing a break. We realize that finding resources as loved ones’ needs change can feel impossible and that caregivers sometimes don’t know where to turn next, no matter how many years they’ve been caregiving.”
Come and join other caregivers and St. Ann Center staff in this confidential discussion. Share your experiences, challenges, insights, best resources and the many rewards of caring for a loved one — and hear those of others. Discover how good it feels to be truly heard and understood, and to know you are not alone.
“There is such a good spirit in this group,” says St. Ann Center’s Karin Ziemienski, an experienced case manager, guardian case manager and human services worker, who facilitates the group. “Participants open up willingly and share their situations. We would love to see more members of the community take advantage of this necessary resource.”
