Do you guys remember my article preparing for Spring a few months ago? We went over all things cleaning and decorating. I cannot start this story without mentioning my uncle Jack, he came and helped me do all my spring cleaning and rearranging and that took 3 days. He came over this weekend to help me clean for my fall reset and which this time only took one day. This was because this past spring, we went beyond the normal cleaning, so my house is still clean and organized. There was absolutely no way I could have pulled this off without his help, so please give my uncle Jack a round of applause.
Since the cleaning is now complete, I will start with the decorating this week. I spent this whole month looking for new pieces for each room to give it a fresh look. I do not follow many fashion and decorating rules, so I decided to decorate with colors like butter yellow, gray, and white for my bedroom, golden yellow for the bath and lemon yellow for the kitchen.
Here is a list of recommendations for you to complete your fall reset project. For the kitchen I suggest replacing the kitchen mats, because they tend to get gross from grease, stains, and foot traffic, and they are not too pricey to replace them. I also recommend cleaning and organizing your fridge. Purchase a few clear containers to keep food fresh and it will give your fridge a clean, appealing look as well.
In your bathroom buy all new towels, because constant washing can damage them and if you use white ones like I do, they tend to hold onto stains like hair dye that bleach will notremove. The old ones can become rags to clean with or goodwill donations. Bathroom rugs are another item that should be changed and can be bought for a reasonable price, but if you use a similar color all the time most rugs wash well so these can be used all season.
In the bedroom I make sure to change out my pillows at least twice a year and I do wash them, but after a few washes the pillow loses its height and fluffiness. Also, buy new sheets, at least 2 new sets at a time and throws, mattress pads and blankets.
The Livingroom does not require a lot of maintenance to keep up. Some staple pieces are a large area rug in a neutral color, good drapery to block out the wind and unwanted light, baskets to store throws, cute containers to hold eyeglasses and remotes, and real house plants.
Lastly, add a few candy jars, canned cookies, and containers of caramel popcorn for family and guests to snack on. This will also add a special touch to your newly decorated home.
Happy decorating!
