A mobile vaccination tent will be set up on the band shell grounds in conjunction with Indaba Nights, a family-friendly series of concerts, dance and dramatic performances held at St. Ann Center’s northside band shell.
No appointment is needed for those eligible for vaccination. A team of National Guard soldiers staffing the site will include a physician’s assistant and medic. “Besides administering vaccines, we’ll be available to answer any questions about vaccine safety,” said Sgt. Jacob Petersen. The type of vaccine available will be determined the day of the event.
The band shell is located in a neighborhood hit hard by COVID-19 and now lagging behind in vaccination rates, the area covered by the 53205-06 ZIP codes.
The National Guard is ramping up its efforts to mobilize and bring the vaccine to popular sites where the community gathers. “Instead of you coming to us, we’re coming to you,” Petersen said. “This is another step toward convenience for anyone who’s been hesitant about getting vaccinated because of difficulty getting to a site or concern about waiting in line.”
“We want to make it as easy as possible for our neighbors to access the vaccine,” said Sr. Edna Lonergan, president of St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care, an all-ages day care serving children, frail elders and adults with disabilities. “Maybe you come to the band shell to listen to some great music or to watch the Milwaukee Ballet or the Florentine Opera perform. You see the vaccination tent and decide, today’s the day to get vaccinated!”
