Have you ever been so overwhelmed that you felt like your entire life was falling apart? You ever been in a space where you felt like you couldn’t complete the task at hand? Maybe there were too many distractions or too many objections or too many responsibilities—It could have been too many thoughts going through your head, too many ideas, too many goals.
No matter what the case is, often times we get into a space where it’s hard to think and even harder to do. In those times we want to give up, we want to throw the towel in, we want to move on without completing the task at hand. We end up trying to do so much that our body begins to react. It begins to become fatigued and weak. We become unmotivated and shortly after we dig ourselves into a slump.
The slump can easily turn into a negative mind space and depression. It can go from a day to a week to a month easily. That’s why it’s so important to learn how to take a break! Yes, I said it, take a break! Whether it’s work, school, business, household related, or even the kids. Sometimes you just need a break to stay healthy mentally.
So you may be wondering just how to take a break exactly because you’re such a hard working over achiever. Well, let me suggest a few healthy activities to spice up your new “break life”.
1. Treat yourself.
Do something you absolutely love to do that you don’t normally do. Whether it’s a special restaurant or a spa day, whatever it is indulge in a guilty pleasure that you have been telling yourself no to.
2. Unplug and undo.
Turn it off! Turn it off! Turn it off! Shut down all of your electronic distractions. I’m talking cellphone, iPads, computer, Apple Watch, I mean everything. If it’s something that can ring, ping, vibrate, flash or catch your attention, turn it off! Create some ME time for yourself
3. Remove yourself from negative people.
No matter who it is. Decide that today they don’t have access to you. Even it means those you love. Talk to them on a different day.
4. Breathe
Take slow, deep breaths. Listen to your breathing. Be aware of your thoughts. Focus. Concentrate on being still for a few minutes. Relax.
5. Take a mini vacation.
Find a spot 1-3 hours away. Book a hotel room. Take yourself to dinner. Do something fun. Breathe some new air. Find some good energy. A mini vacation can help you in ways your can’t imagine. Restore, regroup, and reassess.
6. Leave work early.
Switch up the schedule. You work hard enough. If you’re feeling over worked or overwhelmed take off early. If necessary call off and have a mental health day. Even if it’s a spare of the moment type situation, do it. It’s better for your to be healthy in your mind than miserable while making money.
7. Learn something new.
Doing the same thing over and over and over again can get boring. Try something new. Take a cooking class, pickup a new habit, learn how to play the guitar, study success stories, start practicing a new language—whatever works for you.
8. Journal time.
Take the time to journal, even for a few moments. Do it with no limits. If you’re feeling angry, write about it. If you’re feeling down, write about it. If you’re feeling anxious, write about it. Write out where you are and where you want to be. Write how you’re going to get there. Write in whatever format you want. You can write in sentences or just words. Whatever it is, get it out. It’s it’s something you want to keep keep it. If it’s something you need to let go, trash it when you’re done.
9. Create something.
Be free and let something new come out of it. Build or paint or draw, put together a model or even a puzzle. Create a game. Develop something w natural home remedies. Do some of the things you normally wouldn’t do because you never have the time.
10. Make time to play.
F is for fun and fun is for everyone. Make time to have fun in your own way. Shoot some pool or darts. Have a game night. Go bowling. Create the time for you to chill out and do you. Whether it’s a fun exercise or dinner and a movie with friends, have fun. Enjoy yourself.
