Letting go is the opposite of holding on. It’s the exact action of letting something be. Sometimes this “something” is a person, a place or a thing. Sometimes it’s a habit or an addiction. But it could also be a thought that something exists or still exists. It could be a friend or a loved one. It could be anything.
Either way, letting go is necessary. Think about it. Imagine filling up on groceries or buying a bag of apples. At first, those apples taste amazing, they’re good for you, and they do the trick when you’re hungry. But after a while, if they sit around too long, they then become an issue. They mold and rot away and rotten those around it.
Once the apple reaches this state it’s time to let them go. Keeping the spoiled and old apples around can damage others or even make you sick. This is why they have to go.
I believe we have to take that approach with many things in life. It’s l like as you get older, you begin to realize everything can’t stay, even those things that were once great to you and for you. They have to go, if you want to be better.
If you want to grow and prosper, you have to be willing to handle change. Truth be told, when you begin to treat yourself better or focus on your growth, you’ll begin to see things differently. People who have always been there sometimes become someone who is bad for you. Growing is about knowing and acting on what you know.
Just like trees and plants, when you begin to grow, it’s likely for you to grow a part from some things. Honestly, there’s times where no one did anything wrong, it’s just that you’re not who you were anymore. You don’t want to do those old things. You don’t want those old habits.
There’s growth in letting go. When you sit down with yourself, you may find that certain things have an expiration date, people included. What’s good for you today may not be good for you tomorrow.
And sometimes it’s not anyones fault, it’s just that your perception is changing as well as your urge to do. When you’re working on you, you have to protect yourself. You have to protect your mind. You have to protect your space.
So if you’re feeling like you’re in a season of letting go, understand there’s an art to it. Letting things go can help you shape your life. It can give you more space for new opportunities. It can also cleanse your atmosphere.
LESS IS MORE—- they say. But the truth is, sometimes less IS more. Less of a bad habit makes you treat yourself better. Less fake friends gives you more confidence. Less clutter gives your more space to do what you need to do.
Letting go oftentimes gives so much more. So if you’re in a place where you feel things have shifted or need to shift, don’t run or hide from it. Face it and let it go. You can do it and You’re worth it.
