Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day! This day is memorable because it used to be just a regular day but now it is a national holiday. MLK Day is celebrated all over the world and his legacy will go on and on until we are completely FREE!
The I have a dream speech is playing in my background as I draft this story and I’m moved by it today and every time I hear it. As I listen to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Reciting the speech, I love how his dream has become a reality for us and we are living out some of it in peace just how he envisioned it. Here are some of the dreams that he mentioned that have happened already, which I like to compare as yesterday and Today!
Yesterday, racism was the nation’s focus and law which was used to enslave and separate white people and black people. To be seen with each other meant death and fear gripped the black community so that they didn’t even look at white people.
Today, little black boys and black girls can join hands with little white boys and white girls without being killed and now they can peacefully have families together, businesses and socialize in public.
Yesterday, Dr. King’s speech mentioned that we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation.
Today, we have elected our first black president of the United States Barack Obama and now have our first black female vice president Kamala Harris! Dr. King would have been overjoyed by this and the nations shook after these milestone wins.
Yesterday, Dr. King said “let freedom ring from Stone Mountain of Georgia, Lookout Mountain of Tennessee, hill and molehill of Mississippi, and every state, city and village.
Today, black people are dominating and flourishing in the south. Black people in the south are educators, intellectuals, successful business owners and they are building, sharing and keeping wealth, not just in the south but all over the world.
Our future is bright, and we will surely overcome every obstacle, stronghold and negative stigma that we encounter and will continue to be free at last!
Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day!
