Beginning next week and running weekly through the end of August, the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation will be hosting a pop-up farmers market in areas that lack sufficient access to fresh food in Milwaukee. The outdoor markets will be held rain or shine on Tuesdays between 3:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. at a different location each week. The dates and locations are as follows:
- August 11: Century City I Building (Good City Brewing) – 3945 N. 31st Street
- August 18: Ascension All Saints Family Health Center – 2400 W. Villard Ave.
- August 25: MMSD West Basin (Former Bee Bus Site) – 4350 N. 35th Street
Alderman Khalif J. Rainey is encouraging residents to take advantage of this opportunity. “Access to fresh foods is vitally important, and I want to thank the Northwest Side Community Development Corporation for bringing these farmers markets to underserved areas in our community,” said Alderman Rainey. “I encourage residents to take advantage of these events in August to stock up on fresh foods from local vendors.”
Proper social distancing practices will be in place and masks are required. Cash & SNAP/EBT will be accepted. Featured vendors include Signature Sweets, Pete’s Pops, Red Stone Rice, GLDN HNY, Steppin Out Foods, Community Bakers, Kaleidoscope Gardens and more. The event flyer (attached) includes a $3 coupon. Each farmers market will also feature cooking demonstrations, raffle prizes, and other activities.
