Today is the 1st day of Spring and I am super excited. I love plants and flowers, and this is the time of the year I Repot them. The plant I am going to Repot today is a solid green Spider plant. Growing up these plants were in every home, and it is because they are so easy to care for.
Over the months the plant soil tends to get hard and dry, and the leaves can even get dull. I will admit this year I gave them little attention due to my schedule, so I am glad some life has remained and as I stated before this is an easy plant to care for and little attention is needed.
Later this season I will give you all a flower tutorial, but for now here are the steps to repot your plants.
To get started make sure to have a large working area, gloves, a garden tool to break up the soil, a pot, good potting soil, plant food, newspaper, any decorative figurines for your plants and water of course.
Decide why you are repotting your plant? I am repotting mine because the soil is dry and hard, watering it will help but plants grow best in good soil, so changing it is necessary. Another reason to Repot a plant will be when it has outgrown its pot. If reusing the same pot as I did, make sure to wash the pot thoroughly before reusing it.
- Cut dead/brown tips off plant leaves.
- Break up old dirt with garden tool and pour onto newspaper.
- Carefully remove plant base while keeping the root attached.
- If reusing pot, was thoroughly before repotting.
- Pour new soil into the bottom of the pot and place the plant inside.
- Continue to fill the pot to the top and around the plant.
- Before filling the pot completely with soil, place 3-4 plant sticks (food) around soil and then finish filling to the top or the pot.
- Add decorative figures and water the plant.
Make sure to water your plants once a week and feed them once a month. Enjoy your plant repotting and have a wonderful Spring!
